Hi, Let me tell you a bit about myself.
I have had quite an interesting life since leaving medical school in
Manitoba in 1973. After a year at Stanford for my surgical
internship toward a plastic surgery residency, I travelled to Europe
for a year's sabatical in 1975 and studied with various plastic
surgeons in France, Switzerland and Israel. I focused on head and
neck reconstructive surgery. I really wanted to become a plastic and
reconstructive surgeon.Upon my return, to
California, after the death of my father-in-law, I had to provide
outpatient care and ER coverage for his small 45 bed hospital in
Watts/LA . After one year as a hospitalist, I realized that I did
not want to pursue a traditional medical career.
I looked toward alternatives and at that time,
Holistic Medicine was just becoming popular. First I taught
therapeutic techniques at a local Naturopathic College in Monte Rio,
California and then began studying with an acupuncturist. I started
the Alternative Medicine Foundation to evaluate some of the many new
therapies popping up in California in the mid seventies.
We opened the Holistic Health Center in Santa Rosa,
combining medical practitioners with a chiropracter, optometrist,
wellness nurse, biofeedback therapist and acupuncturist to utilize
various modalities and evaluate them for their effectiveness. The
most useful technique turned out to be Acupuncture. I found a
teacher, Whaja Kim, CA. in Monterey and moved to Carmel in 1980,
where I apprenticed with her for two years. She is still a dear
friend and has retired to Waikiki where she manages my condo .
Once I became a vegetarian, at age 30, I opened my
seventh medical office in lovely Carmel-by-the-sea overlooking the
ocean , and for ten years perfected my craft becoming an expert in
Preventive Medicine techniques-- the field of health promotion and
disease prevention. I struggled at first but this form of medicine
caught on with the local intelligensia.
It was great fun but very lonely since none of the
physicians were interested in what I did. I was isolated, busy
building my house and not involved with local doctors. In 1990 I was
forced to move my office five miles north into conservative
Monterey, since I owned the building and it was becoming vacant.
First I tried focusing on longevity medicine, but it was too new and
not in demand.
Good health is a reward for those who want to change
their lifestyle but they must avoid flesh based diets. Most people
are not willing to give up eating flesh. It is still a struggle to
convine them that an American diet can kill you prematurely, and
really only exercise, a vegetarian diet and preventive medications
line the path to health. More about me at:

In I996, I received my Family Practice Board
Certification and started working to help my patients change their
lifestyles; now dealing more with smoking cessation techniques and
hormone replacement programs. I also started a personal exercise
program with a personal trainer and by age 40, I was in the best
physical condition I had ever achieved. I could run 10 K's easily
and lifted my body (175 repeatedly) and started using lighter
weights for strength training. Even my two teenage sons were
impressed.
My two sons, Zolly, who graduated from Stanford as
valedictorian, having been the valedictorian for his undergraduate
classes at UCSB, and Gilly, who skipped his last year at college and
caught up with his brother so that they both went to medical school
at the same time. Gil is getting married in September and graduated
from UCSF. He is currently in third year of Plastic Surgery
residency at stanford, whereas Zol is in the same year at
Northwestern in Chicago. Zol got married after graduation and his
bride, Tracy, a lovely computer scientist from Berkely, gave me my
first grandchild, Nathan Buki Royale on June 3,2004. Zol had already
learned how to do microsurgery for his summer research project by
auditing out of three medical school courses which he passed without
ever attending a class.
Both boys are thrilled with their training programs.
I had the unusual pleasure to work with Chad Hawker,
a world class Christian triathlete, who had a pituitary tumor, which
we discovered serendipitously. Using transdermal hormones to correct
his various imbalances, along with intense training in his Ironman
event, Chad became a world class athlete. Chad helped me to
understand training and continues to amaze me, with his incredible
devotion to endurance athletics. Chad continues to do very well and
he is the six-year reigning champion of the Half Ironman in Kona ,
Hawaii.
My homey, non-traditional medical office in
Monterey, attracts people from all over the world. In my remodel and
creation of a second floor and private office, I am able to have a
massage therapist who uses orthobionics to help my patients attain
balanced muscles and place to monitor WellnessMD Publications.
In my practice, hormone replacement and specialized
diets are an important part of my therapies. I choose to use the
internet to educate people about the environment, the effects of
hormones and nutraceutical supplements from
organically grown fuits and vegetables. A product
named Juice Plus is my
preferred nutritional supplement. More on that at:

I am a citizen of Canada, US and Israel and have
many varied hobbies ranging from raising native butterflies ,
building living structures, stained glass, sculpting in wax, organic
gardening, running and writing.
From 1992 to 2002, I built my own house from the
ground up, landscaping from the start with fruit trees and gardens.
After a visit to Costa Rica in 1995, I developed a butterfly farm on
an empty acre two doors down from my home in Carmel Valley.. I hold
tours for local school children, helping kids to learn about native
butterflies and producing habitats for these fairy-like creatures.
Having travelled to Asia, the Middle East, Europe,
South America and regularly to Hawaii I find that home is really
best. I used to volunteer to treat the athletes after the Ironman
for about four years and now I travel annually to Europe or Canada
to promote my products or make new business contacts.
My position on the scientific board of the
nutraceutical company, Mycological Research Laboratories, allows me
to provide these enormously useful immune stimulants to patients
with weakened systems at reduced cost. The company is based in
England and California and Portugal. Annual meetings take place all
over the world, mostly in Europe.
In 1996, after one of my patients lost his pituitary
function after proton beam radiation to treat a brain tumor, I
developed a topical vehicle for getting hormones into the blood
stream. I became involved in studying the effects of male hormone
replacement as a treatment for erectile dysfunction and impotence as
well as the possibility of penis enhancement. .Yes, its true, I have
eclectic medical interests including sports medicine, andrology,
sexology, immunology, gerentology, urology and acupuncture.
Hormone medicine for men has become a large part of
my current medical practice.
With considerable help from my friends, I developed
the WellnessMD Webstore in 1997. The internet is a wonderful tool to
reach the world and advertize to anyone and everyone, as you know.

I am very happy, busy, fullfilled , no longer
married, healthier and somewhat wiser than in my youth, but I still
have a lot to accomplish. I have just finished writing about the
relationship between hormones and sex in "Listen to Your Hormones: A
Doctor's Guide to Sex, Love and Long Life (especially for men). More
info at:

I hope some day to become affiliated with a group of
Complimentary Medicine physicians and provide training program for
some of their medical students or even the doctors themselves. I
have some unpublished research regarding hormones and sexual
function but I have already started my second book, "The Butterfly
Gland": How the Thyroid Gland Controls Our Weight.
I am celebrating my 21st annual 40th birthday party again in
July/05 with my friends and neighbours in attendance and I hope you
can make it, Gabrielle and this time with Joey. This is probably
more than you wanted to know about me, but I wanted to tell you.
Regards , Abraham.
PS: Joey started the AndroGel. I talked to him ... Keep feeding
him big breakfasts.
